Why Should I Make Any Changes to my Air Filter System?
Not everyone wants a car that is loud from the engine bay, this is why car companies decide to make restrictions to a car. They like to balance out power, sound, MPG, etc. Because of this balance, your car could be lacking in some areas that you might want to change. One of these areas is typically the stock air filter and air filter box.
In stock form, the intake box and the intake tube is not smooth. This causes the air to bounce around and not deliver the best possible flow into the upper intake manifold. In order to remedy this, most people like to either replace the system with a Hot Air Intake or a Cold Air Intake. Read below on each of them.
Cold Air Intakes
A proper cold air intake (CAI) system will shield engine bay heat from the air filter. This means that your car should only be pulling in air from outside the engine bay (ambient air). Most cold air intakes also come with a new intake tube. This new tube should allow all of the extra air to be pulled into the engine in the most efficient way possible. When you are all set up, you should be pulling in a lot more air than stock, and this will mean that your car can create more power. An engine that can breathe better, performs better.

Hot Air Intakes
A hot air intake (HAI) is just simply an exposed filter in the engine bay. This will increase the sound of your intake and the feel of your throttle response, and act okay when traveling at speeds, but these set-ups can actually HINDER performance when the heat from the engine bay begins to raise the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) to be much higher than the ambient air temperature. I can not recommend these to people because they just give you sound and negate any performance.

I consider the K&N to be a HAI just because their heat shield is a joke. They don't even call their system a CAI as they say it is a Fuel Injected Performance Kit (FIPK). You are truly just paying for the name with this system.
A Fenderwell Intake (FWI) is an intake where the filter is located outside of the engine bay and tucked safely within the Fender of your car. These kits are generally cheaper and easier to make yourself and can pull cold air into the engine.
I don't know of any kits for the 3400 engine.
